A Nest Box on an Industrial Giant

The camera sits on a ledge of OPPD's North Omaha Station, a power-generating facility whose tall structures make an unlikely but effective substitute for the cliff faces peregrine falcons naturally favor. A wooden nest box was installed on the site in 2019 specifically to give the birds a secure ledge for raising young.

One of the World's Fastest Birds

The peregrine falcon is famous for its hunting stoop, reaching speeds that make it the fastest animal on the planet. Once endangered by pesticide exposure, the species has rebounded across North America, and pairs increasingly nest on tall bridges, buildings, and industrial towers instead of the remote cliffs their ancestors chose.

Watching Without Disturbing

The camera lets viewers follow the resident pair and their chicks through incubation, hatching, and fledging without approaching the nest. Omaha Public Power District shares the feed as part of its broader environmental and public-education programming.
