A Peak Among Japan's Famous Mountains
Mount Tsukuba rises in southern Ibaraki as one of Japan's One Hundred Famous Mountains, known for its twin summits, Nantai-san and the slightly higher Nyotai-san. This camera is fixed at the Nyotai-san summit junction, where the mountain's main paths meet near the highest point.
The Rocky Trail Crest
In the foreground, a weathered granite outcrop and scattered boulders mark the convergence of trails, edged by protective railings and timber steps. The exposed rock and worn earth reveal the well-trodden route that countless hikers follow to reach the top.
Forest and the Kanto Plain
Surrounding the crest, a dense broadleaf forest cloaks the upper slopes in deep green. The vantage opens toward the vast Kanto Plain stretching far below, a panorama that has drawn visitors to this peak for centuries.
A Beloved Hiking Destination
At 877 metres, Nyotai-san is a celebrated hiking destination served by ridge trails, a cable car and a ropeway. Revered in local tradition and rich in seasonal colour, Mount Tsukuba remains one of the Kanto region's most visited natural landmarks.
