A Sacred Torii Above the Sea

Rising from a cluster of rocks 700 meters off the Hayama shoreline, the vermilion torii gate of Morito Shrine marks the small island of Najima, said to have been raised centuries ago in devotion to the sea deity Owatatsumi. The gate has become one of the most photographed silhouettes on the Miura Peninsula.

Sagami Bay and the Hayama Lighthouse
