Mispillion Harbor Jetty
OnlineA rock jetty guards the mouth of the Mispillion River where it meets Delaware Bay, keeping the harbor entrance calm for boat traffic. The surrounding tidal marsh and open bay are a globally important stopover for migratory shorebirds and spawning horseshoe crabs, making this a quietly vital stretch of coastline.

A Working Harbor Entrance
This view looks out over the rubble-mound jetty that shelters the narrow channel connecting the Mispillion River to Delaware Bay. The stone breakwater absorbs wave energy from the open bay, giving small craft a protected passage in and out of the harbor.
Delaware Bay's Ecological Significance
The beaches and flats around Mispillion Harbor host one of the largest horseshoe crab spawning aggregations in the world, which in turn draws enormous flocks of red knots and other shorebirds on their long-distance migrations. The site is managed as part of the DuPont Nature Center reserve, dedicated to protecting this delicate estuarine habitat.
Operated by Delaware DNREC
The camera is maintained by Delaware's Division of Fish and Wildlife, part of the state's Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, offering an ongoing public window onto the harbor and its surrounding bay waters.
