The Marjaniemi Lighthouse

Standing guard at the western point of Hailuoto, the Marjaniemi Lighthouse has marked the approach to the Gulf of Bothnia since the late 19th century. Once a vital pilot station for ships entering the port of Oulu, the slender tower and its keeper's buildings now anchor a beloved maritime heritage site.

A Working Harbour & Marina

The sheltered basin below the lighthouse serves as a small craft harbour, with a stone breakwater, floating jetties and a service pier. Fishing vessels and recreational boats share the calm inner waters, a reminder of Hailuoto's enduring bond with the sea.

Island Life on Hailuoto

Reached only by ferry across the strait, Hailuoto is one of Finland's most distinctive Baltic islands. The cluster of traditional red-ochre cottages, open meadows and low boreal vegetation captures the quiet, weathered character of life on this remote outpost of North Ostrobothnia.
