About This Webcam
Everything you need to know about this live stream
An urban colony of a threatened falcon
The lesser kestrel (Falco naumanni) is a small, colonial falcon that nests in cavities on buildings and rooftops across the Mediterranean. In Los Barrios, several pairs breed above the streets around the village church, forming one of the living urban colonies that make the town a notable spot for birdwatchers.
Inside the nest box
This camera looks directly into Nest Box 4, one of the artificial cavities installed to support the colony. Viewers can follow the pair up close as they incubate, brood and feed, watching the subtle behaviours that are normally hidden from view behind the walls where these birds nest.
A conservation and education project
The feed is run by the TUMBABUEY initiative to show the public how these beneficial raptors control pests and thrive in urban settings. Backed by the local council, schools and regional ornithological groups, it turns a discreet nest box into a window on sustainable nature tourism and citizen awareness.
What to look for
Watch for the chestnut-backed male and the more heavily barred female as they come and go, the attentive care of the chicks, and the characteristic feeding visits. Each glimpse offers an up-close look at the life of a species that shares its home with the people of Los Barrios.
