The Historic Heart of Lanškroun

This camera looks out over náměstí Jana Marka Marků, the long market square that has formed the civic centre of Lanškroun since the town was laid out in the Middle Ages. Paved in pale stone and edged with parking, it is still a working public space at the core of everyday town life.

The Renaissance Old Town Hall

The freestanding white building rising from the middle of the square is the Old Town Hall, an elegant Renaissance structure topped by a tall clock tower. Once the seat of the town council, it now shelters the local museum and gives the square its instantly recognisable silhouette.

Architecture Around the Square

The perimeter forms a near-continuous frontage of burgher houses in soft pastel tones, many with arcaded ground floors and ornate gables that recall the prosperous trading past of this town on the historic Bohemian–Moravian frontier.

The view captures the unhurried pace of a small Czech town: people crossing the cobbles, cars easing into the marked bays, and passers-by pausing beside the central monument before heading off into Lanškroun's surrounding lanes.
