Lake Yamanaka is the biggest and highest of the five lakes ringing the northern base of Mount Fuji. Sitting at roughly 980 metres above sea level on the volcano's gentle skirts, its broad surface offers one of the most expansive vantage points on the sacred peak anywhere in the region.

A Postcard Volcanic Panorama

The view sweeps from wooded hillsides down to the open water, with Mount Fuji commanding the horizon. The lake is famed for the reversed Fuji reflection and for Diamond Fuji, when the sun aligns with the summit and crowns it with light.

A Resort and Recreation Hub

Ringed by hot-spring inns, campsites and lakeside paths, Yamanakako is a popular base for sailing, windsurfing and cycling. The shoreline draws visitors year-round to walk, fish and take in the ever-changing mountain backdrop.

Gateway to the Fuji Region

Part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, the lake anchors a landscape of forests, shrines and trailheads. This camera keeps a steady eye on the water and the majestic volcano that defines the Yamanashi skyline.
