Laguna Dulce Wetland Birdwatching
OnlineGaze across the tranquil waters of Laguna Dulce, a shallow endorheic lagoon at the heart of the Lagunas de Campillos Nature Reserve in inland Andalusia. The reed-fringed shoreline and mirror-still surface draw ducks, coots and waterfowl that dabble and drift across the lagoon, set against rolling cereal fields. It is one of the finest birdwatching windows in the province.

A Refuge for Andalusian Waterfowl
Laguna Dulce is the largest of the lagoons that make up the Lagunas de Campillos Nature Reserve, a cluster of endorheic wetlands set among the agricultural plains of inland Málaga. Its open sheet of fresh water hosts large numbers of ducks, coots, grebes and flamingos, making the lagoon a cornerstone of the region's protected birdlife.
The Lagoon Through the Seasons
Fed by rainfall and runoff with no natural outlet, the lagoon's water level rises and falls across the year, concentrating birds along its reed-lined margins. Migratory species pause here on their journeys, while resident waterfowl breed and feed in the shelter of the surrounding marsh vegetation.
A Birdwatcher's Vantage Point
The camera offers an uninterrupted view across the water toward the far bank, ideal for spotting the constant comings and goings of the lagoon's residents. The reserve forms part of a wider network of Andalusian wetlands recognised for their ecological value and importance to migratory routes.
