Perched at the entrance to Kusatsu Onsen, this roadside station (michi-no-eki) marks the threshold of one of Japan's three great hot-spring towns. Travellers pause here to rest, shop for local produce and gather tourist information before the final climb into the mountain spa resort.

The complex gathers half-timbered shops and a restaurant around a generous car park, with a landmark green observation tower rising above the trees. From its platform visitors take in sweeping views over the Agatsuma highlands that surround the resort.
