Kumamoto Castle, the Feudal Landmark

Dominating the skyline, Kumamoto Castle (Kumamoto-jō) is one of the most imposing fortresses ever built in Japan. Founded in the early 17th century by the warlord Katō Kiyomasa, its towering black-and-white keep and famous curved musha-gaeshi stone walls have made it a defining symbol of the region.
