A Falcon Family on a Civic Facade

This camera looks straight into a nest box fixed to the wall of the Starostwo Powiatowe (County Office) in Legionowo. The resident common kestrels — Poland's most widespread falcon — return here to raise their young, turning an ordinary administrative building into an active urban wildlife site.

Life Inside the Box

The viewer watches the chicks up close as they huddle together on the gravel floor of the box. Their pale down gradually gives way to the rufous plumage typical of the species, offering a rare front-row seat to the growth of a raptor brood.

About the Common Kestrel

The common kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) is known for its hovering hunting flight, holding position on the wind before stooping on prey. Males show a blue-grey head and rusty back, while females and juveniles wear a more uniformly spotted brown coat.

Conservation and Outreach

Provided by the Legionowo County authorities, this feed is part of a wider environmental-education effort that lets the public follow a protected raptor through its breeding cycle, building support for urban biodiversity across Masovia.
