Kap Arkona Lighthouses
OnlineAt the northern tip of Rügen island, this cape gathers a striking cluster of lighthouses above the Baltic coastline. The scene takes in the historic Schinkelturm, the active Neuer Leuchtturm, and the slender Peilturm bearing tower, framed by open grassland and open sea beyond the cliffs. It ranks among northern Germany's most iconic maritime landmarks.

A Cluster of Three Towers
Few coastal viewpoints pack in as much maritime history as this one: the squat Schinkelturm, Rügen's oldest lighthouse, stands beside the taller Neuer Leuchtturm, still an active aid to navigation, and the slim Peilturm, once used for radio bearing. Together they form an unmistakable silhouette against the open sky.
Germany's Northernmost Cape
Cape Arkona marks the very tip of the Wittow peninsula, where chalk-and-boulder cliffs drop toward the Baltic Sea. The exposed, windswept headland has guided sailors for centuries and remains one of the most photographed vantage points on the German coast.
Exhibitions and Coastal Trails
Around the towers, visitors find the "Seenotrettung" exhibition on maritime rescue, a small souvenir shop, and a lighthouse-keeper's holiday flat. Well-marked paths lead along the cliff edge toward Gellort, the island's northernmost point, and back through the village of Putgarten.
