OnlineThis 4K live camera watches the Kanmon Strait from Moji Port, capturing one of Japan's busiest maritime passages where the main island of Honshu nearly touches Kyushu. A steady procession of ferries, container ships, tankers and patrol vessels threads the narrow tidal channel, with the graceful Kanmon Bridge and the Shimonoseki waterfront framing the far shore.

A Strategic Maritime Crossroads
The Kanmon Strait separates Honshu from Kyushu and connects the Seto Inland Sea with the open ocean. At its narrowest the channel closes to roughly 650 metres, funnelling international shipping through a demanding waterway where currents can exceed ten knots on a spring tide.
A Parade of Vessels
On a heavy day nearly 1,000 ships of every kind pass this point โ luxury cruise liners, ferries, container ships, tankers, bulk carriers, tugboats, coast-guard cutters and car carriers. Ships are required to hold a minimum speed as they transit, making the strait a continuously changing scene for maritime enthusiasts.
Landmarks Across the Water
Beyond the vessels rise the Kanmon Bridge, the Kaikyo Yume Tower and a Ferris wheel on the Shimonoseki shore in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The camera itself looks out from the historic Mojiko Retro district of Kitakyushu, a preserved port townscape.
Echoes of History
These waters carry deep significance: the strait was the setting of the decisive Battle of Dan-no-ura. Today it remains a living stage where centuries of seafaring history meet the relentless rhythm of modern trade.
