A Freshwater Window Into Lake Champlain
This camera looks into the Into the Lake exhibit at ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain, a science and nature museum on Burlington's waterfront. The 15,000-gallon habitat recreates a slice of the lake's rocky shoreline, complete with submerged logs and smooth stones.
Some of the Lake's Largest Fish
The tank showcases lake sturgeon, bowfin, channel catfish, freshwater drum, and muskellunge โ among Lake Champlain's biggest and most striking native species. Visitors can watch these fish move through the water at close range, many of which are rarely seen in the wild.
A Naturalistic Habitat
The exhibit's rockwork and driftwood mirror the lake's natural underwater terrain, giving the fish a setting that reflects their real habitat rather than a bare tank. The result is an immersive, up-close perspective on species that spend most of their lives hidden beneath the surface.
Part of ECHO's Mission
ECHO's Into the Lake exhibit supports the museum's broader mission to inspire curiosity about Lake Champlain and its ecosystem, connecting visitors and online viewers alike to the fish that call the lake home.
