Holy Cross Church Altar

A Cross-Shaped Parish Church

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross takes its name from the feast honoring the veneration of Christ's cross, and its footprint was built in the shape of a cross. A belfry and side galleries were added around 1900, giving the church its present silhouette above the village.

The Altar and Sanctuary

The camera looks straight down the nave toward the marble high altar, its carved crucifix lit by a softly glowing sanctuary lamp. Side altars and stained-glass windows frame the sanctuary on either side of the aisle.

Myshall, at the Foot of Mount Leinster

Myshall — from the Irish Maigh Íseal, "the low plain" — is a small village in County Carlow nestled beneath Mount Leinster. The parish, part of the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin, also serves the nearby church of St Laserian in Drumphea.
