A Medieval Town Reborn

Nestled against the slopes of the Julian Prealps, Gemona del Friuli is one of the most beautiful historic towns of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. Known worldwide as the town devastated by the 1976 earthquake, it stands today as a celebrated symbol of successful reconstruction, its medieval fabric carefully restored to its original character.

The Duomo & the Old Center

Dominating the view is the Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta, a majestic Romanesque-Gothic cathedral whose bell tower and rose window anchor the skyline. Below it, the restored palazzi of Via Bini line the old town, some revealing splendid frescoes recovered during their restoration.

Towers on the Hill

Above the rooftops rise the castle towers that have watched over Gemona for centuries, set against a backdrop of forested ridges. The scene captures the layered heritage of a town where medieval, ecclesiastical, and mountain landscapes meet in a single frame.
