A Rural Crossing on Green Valley Road

The camera looks north along Green Valley Road toward its junction with Sullivan Road, a stretch of two-lane blacktop carrying local traffic through the rolling countryside southwest of Sebastopol. A gravel shoulder, roadside power poles and a low guardrail line the pavement, while a dense hedge of oaks and bay laurel closes in from the west.

Watching Over Flood-Prone Lowlands

Certain stretches of Green Valley Road cross low-lying creek bottoms that can pool with standing water, and this feed was installed specifically so drivers can check conditions before crossing. It is a joint project of the Sonoma County Department of Public Infrastructure and the Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District, part of a wider effort to keep the community informed about road safety.

Vineyards of the Green Valley AVA

To the east, neat rows of trellised grapevines stretch toward the horizon, a hallmark of the Green Valley of Russian River Valley American Viticultural Area, one of Sonoma County's cooler wine-growing pockets prized for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
