A Living Railroad Heritage Site

This camera looks out over the former Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe mainline, today operated by BNSF Railway between Newton and Arkansas City. The view captures the tracks owned by the Wichita Terminal Association, a compact stretch where mainline railroading meets the city's preserved transportation history.

The Trains You Will See

Roughly forty movements a day pass milepost 212.3 — BNSF manifest, intermodal and local freights, Union Pacific trains, and the Watco K&O and SKOL shortlines. Timetabled east-west yet running compass north-south, the trains hold a measured thirty-mile-an-hour pace as they thread through downtown Wichita.

The Great Plains Transportation Museum

The camera is hosted beside the museum, home to Santa Fe steam locomotive #3768 and FP45 diesel #93 — the last passenger locomotives built for the Santa Fe. The setting ties the live rail action to a celebrated collection of preserved motive power.

A Crossroads of the Plains

The location sits near key junctions: the BNSF Wichita Yard and UP Cline and Wichita Yards lie three miles north, while South Junction, one mile south, links to UP's Enid Subdivision. It is a genuine operational crossroads on the railroads of the American heartland.
