Perched on the northern shoulder of the Gaisberg, this is the Nordstartplatz — the north takeoff cherished by the local flying community. Grassy ramps slope gently toward the edge, where pilots clip in and wait for the right cycle before stepping into the air above the valley.

Free-Flight Capital Near Salzburg

The Gaisberg is one of Austria's premier free-flight mountains, drawing paragliders and hang gliders from across the region. The exposed ridge captures reliable thermals and ridge lift, making it a favourite for both training flights and long cross-country attempts toward the surrounding peaks.

A Sweeping Panorama

Beyond the windsock and launch ramps, the view opens across a broad alpine valley toward the rooftops of Salzburg and the layered foothills of the Northern Limestone Alps. Forested slopes, meadow trails and a small hilltop shelter frame the foreground of this elevated vantage point.
