This pocket beach on the east side of Round Island is one of the closest viewing spots for Pacific walrus, the second most popular haulout in the sanctuary. A large central rock near the low-tide line acts as a focal point where walrus come and go, often submerging their heads to feed at its base.

Wildlife of Round Island

Beyond the walrus, the cove teems with life: pigeon guillemots and other seabirds are frequent visitors to the rock and shoreline, while the cliff faces above host nesting pelagic cormorants and puffins. It is a rich window into a thriving Alaskan marine ecosystem.

Round Island lies within the Walrus Islands State Game Sanctuary in Bristol Bay, Alaska, a remote protected refuge established to safeguard one of the world's great pinniped gatherings.
