A Panorama of Interior Alaska

This camera surveys the Tanana Valley from an elevated vantage above Fairbanks, the largest city in Alaska's vast interior. The view stretches across rolling boreal terrain toward braided river channels and the far horizon of the Alaska Range foothills.

Birch, Spruce and Open Sky

In the foreground, groves of paper birch and slender black spruce — the signature trees of the subarctic taiga — line the grounds. Beyond them, the land opens onto the Tanana Flats, a broad expanse of wetlands and waterways that defines this part of the north.

Gateway to the Far North

Fairbanks sits just below the Arctic Circle and serves as a hub for exploring Interior Alaska. From this overlook you can sense the immense scale of the landscape, where the town gives way almost immediately to untamed wilderness in every direction.
