A Working Inlet on the Florida Panhandle

East Pass is the channel connecting the Gulf of Mexico to Choctawhatchee Bay, separating the city of Destin from the barrier island of Okaloosa Island. Jettied to keep it navigable, it has long served as the gateway for Destin's charter-fishing fleet, the reason the town calls itself the "World's Luckiest Fishing Village."

The William T. Marler Bridge

Carrying U.S. Highway 98 over the pass, the William T. Marler Bridge is the visual anchor of this view, its low concrete spans running arrow-straight toward Miramar Beach. The bridge links Destin's harbor district with the beaches to the east and remains one of the busiest crossings on the Emerald Coast.

Jetties, Sand and Open Water

Below the bridge, the East Jetty rocks form a breakwater against the tidal current, while a wide crescent of sugar-white sand curves along the Destin shoreline. The channel's emerald-green water is a favorite route for boats moving between the Gulf and the bay.

A Landmark for Boaters and Anglers

Because East Pass is the only inlet along this stretch of coast, it channels nearly all Gulf-bound boat traffic, from charter fishing boats to private sailboats, past this exact spot. The camera offers a lasting reference point for anyone tracking conditions in one of Florida's most active passes.
