A Rooftop Tour of Downtown Boulder
The camera sits above 1035 Pearl Street, a short walk from the pedestrian Pearl Street Mall, and pans through a repeating sequence of five viewpoints. From a single rooftop it covers the brick faรงades of downtown Boulder, the residential hills around it and the wall of the Front Range rising directly west of the city.
The Flatirons and Chautauqua Park
The first view frames the Flatirons, the tilted slabs of Fountain Formation sandstone leaning against Green Mountain that have become the emblem of Boulder. Below them lies Chautauqua Park, a historic assembly ground founded in 1898 and the starting point of many of the city's best-loved trails and climbing routes.
Mount Sanitas, Boulder Canyon and Flagstaff
Turning northwest, the camera takes in Mount Sanitas and the Victorian homes of the Mapleton Hill historic district. Another stop looks along West Pearl Street to the mouth of Boulder Canyon and the forested slopes of Flagstaff Mountain, where the road begins its climb into the Rockies.
CU Boulder and the Street Below
To the southeast the view reaches the University of Colorado Boulder and Folsom Field, home of the Buffaloes football team. The tour closes at street level on the corner of 10th and Pearl, a lively stretch of restaurants, shops and cafรฉs at the western end of downtown.
