Dormakade Quay & Marina

A working marina in a historic fishing village

The Dormakade is one of several quays ringing the sheltered harbour of Urk, a former island village on the shore of the IJsselmeer whose maritime identity still defines its streets and skyline. The basin fills with moored sailing yachts and traditional motor cruisers, their masts forming a dense, ever-shifting skyline above the water.

A distinctive promenade landmark

Along the paved quay stands a striking black sculpture of a leaping dolphin, a favourite spot for visitors strolling the harbourfront. Bicycle racks and parked cars line the promenade, capturing the everyday rhythm of village life alongside the boats.

Village silhouette and the lighthouse

Across the basin, Urk's lighthouse and rows of brick, gable-roofed houses trace the old village skyline, a view that has anchored the community's identity for generations. The open waters of the IJsselmeer stretch beyond the breakwater, linking the harbour to the wider lake.
