Cohutta Train Camera: H & I Lines
OnlineThis railfan camera overlooks the junction of Norfolk Southern's H Line and I Line in the small town of Cohutta, set against a backdrop of dense Appalachian woodland. The busy H Line carries around 30 trains a day — intermodal, manifest, and coal — while the historic I Line keeps its quiet, rural character. A classic spot for train watching.

A Storied Pair of Railroads
The camera sits between two lines with deep Southern railroading heritage. The I Line traces its roots to the 1836 Hiwassee Railroad, one of the South's earliest ventures, later absorbed into the East Tennessee, Virginia & Georgia Railway and the Southern Railway. An 1880s cutoff created today's H Line, which became the region's primary main.
Two Distinct Personalities
While the H Line remains a vital Norfolk Southern corridor — carrying intermodal, manifest, and coal traffic linking Atlanta with East Tennessee — the I Line now sees only occasional Maintenance-of-Way and storage movements. Together they tell the story of Southern railroading past and present.
The Setting in Cohutta
Framed by the rolling, forested hills of northwest Georgia, the view captures single-track rails curving through trackside ballast and lineside greenery. The cam is hosted from a local railfan's front yard, giving it an intimate, community feel rarely found on mainline feeds.
For the Railfan Community
With high daily traffic on the H Line, viewers can expect a steady parade of freight power and varied consists. It is an ideal vantage for train spotting, locomotive identification, and following the rhythm of a working Appalachian rail junction.
