Union Pacific's Laramie Subdivision

The yard sits at the base of the climb to Sherman Hill, a demanding grade that makes Cheyenne a key staging point for Union Pacific freight and intermodal traffic heading west. Dozens of trains pass through daily, from long double-stack consists to specialized maintenance-of-way equipment.

Historic Architecture

The view overlooks landmarks from the railroad's earliest days: the 1931 roundhouse, the 1941 turntable, and the 1919 machine shop, all connected to Cheyenne's role in completing the transcontinental railroad in 1869.
