Central Station Northeast Approach
OnlineA sweeping vantage over the northeastern approach to Newcastle Central Station, where the fanning steel rails of one of Britain's busiest junctions thread between Victorian warehouses and the lantern tower of St Nicholas Cathedral. LUMO and regional services glide across the diamond crossings while the city's rooftops rise beyond the platforms.

One of Britain's Great Railway Junctions
This camera overlooks the northeastern throat of Newcastle Central Station, a Grade I listed terminus opened in 1850 whose famous curving overall roof shelters one of the most intensively worked junctions on the East Coast Main Line. A complex fan of points and diamond crossings spreads out below the lens, carrying long-distance and regional traffic toward the river.
LUMO and the East Coast Main Line
Bright blue LUMO trains, who generously provide this view, share the rails with LNER, CrossCountry, TransPennine Express and Northern services, making the approach a constant procession of liveries for the dedicated trainspotter.
The High Level Bridge and City Skyline
The camera occasionally pans toward Robert Stephenson's High Level Bridge over the Tyne, while the lantern crown of St Nicholas Cathedral and the warehouses of the Forth Banks quarter frame the wider city beyond the tracks.
