The River Waal

The Waal is the main distributary of the Rhine and the busiest river in the Netherlands, carrying a constant procession of inland cargo barges between Rotterdam and Germany. From this vantage the broad channel sweeps past green groynes and sandy banks, with the far shore of the Betuwe floodplain on the horizon.

Camping Waalstrand

Camping Waalstrand is a riverside holiday park whose caravans, tents and chalets line the water's edge. A sandy beach, playground and waterfront terrace make it a popular family base for exploring the river, with boats and recreational craft moored along the shore.

Gendt and the Betuwe

The campground sits beside the village of Gendt, in the municipality of Lingewaard, part of the fertile Betuwe region famed for its orchards. The protective Waaldijk dike runs along the bank, a classic feature of the Dutch river landscape that guards the low-lying polders behind it.
