A Protected Species Under Watch
The white stork is a protected species across Europe, and this nest near Călugăreni in Giurgiu County gives researchers and the public a rare, continuous window into its daily rhythms. The birds return to the same platform year after year, forming pairs that often stay together for life.
Built for the Storks, by the Community
The nest sits on a metal support installed on a power pole by E-Distribuție Muntenia, engineered to keep the birds safe from electrical hazards while preserving their preferred nesting height. Layers of twigs, straw and reeds form a sturdy cradle for the eggs and, later, the growing chicks.
Part of a Nationwide Census
This camera feeds directly into Uite Barza!, a citizen-science project run by the Romanian Ornithological Society to map every stork nest in the country. Volunteers and viewers alike help track arrivals, clutch sizes and fledging success across hundreds of monitored nests.
