Borkum Beach, Dunes & Wadden Sea

The Beach & Promenade

This camera overlooks the main beach of Borkum from the elevated seafront promenade beside the landmark Gästehaus Victoria. The broad sandy shore is dotted with colourful Strandkörbe — the hooded wicker beach chairs that are an icon of the German coast — and a lively boardwalk with cyclists and strollers.

North Sea & Offshore Sandbank

The North Sea dominates the horizon, with a prominent offshore sandbank exposed at low water. Fishing vessels and the occasional seal can be seen across the tidal channel, while ferries connect the island to the mainland.

Dunes & the Wadden Sea

Behind the beach rise the protected dunes that shape Borkum's landscape, and the camera frames the edge of the Wadden Sea, a vast intertidal ecosystem inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its extraordinary biodiversity and migrating birds.

The Island of Borkum
