Black Stork Nest, International Tagus
OnlineThis live nest camera looks directly onto a pair of black storks raising their chicks on a rocky ledge high above the Tagus reservoir, deep inside the Tajo Internacional Natural Park on the Spanish-Portuguese border. The rugged granite cliffs and still green water frame one of Iberia's most secluded wildlife refuges. It is a rare, intimate window into the life of a species that nests almost exclusively on remote river escarpments.
About This Webcam
Everything you need to know about this live stream
A Cliffside Black Stork Nest
The camera frames a black stork (Ciconia nigra) nest built on a sheltered rock ledge overlooking the Tagus. Unlike its white cousin, this shy species avoids towns and breeds on isolated cliffs, making a close, continuous view like this genuinely exceptional.
The International Tagus Natural Park
The nest sits within the Tajo Internacional Natural Park, a transboundary protected area straddling the Spanish-Portuguese border in the province of Cáceres. Steep schist and granite gorges, dammed stretches of river and open dehesa woodland make it one of the Iberian Peninsula's premier sanctuaries for raptors and large waterbirds.
Wildlife of the Tagus Gorges
Beyond the storks, these cliffs shelter griffon vultures, Egyptian vultures, Bonelli's eagles and Eurasian eagle-owls, while the reservoir below draws herons, cormorants and otters. The reserve is recognised as a Special Protection Area for birds and forms part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve shared with Portugal.
Watching the Nest Live
The feed offers an unhurried, ground-level intimacy with a wild family: adults arriving with food, chicks stretching and preening, and the slow rhythm of life on the ledge. It is a front-row seat to a breeding cycle that few people ever witness in the wild.
