The Black Stork

The black stork (Ciconia nigra) is a shy, solitary relative of the familiar white stork, distinguished by its glossy black plumage, white belly and striking red bill and legs. Unlike its gregarious cousin, it nests deep within undisturbed forests, making this live feed a rare chance to observe behaviour that is almost never seen in the wild.

Life at the Nest

The camera looks directly into a large stick nest built high in the canopy, where the breeding pair raises a clutch of chicks. Viewers can follow the full rhythm of stork family life — incubation, feeding, the constant rearranging of nest material, and the steady growth of the young as they prepare to fledge.

Makov Rescue Station

The feed is operated by the Makov wildlife rescue station (Záchranná stanice živočichů Makov), a non-governmental centre that cares for injured and orphaned wild animals and runs environmental education programmes across the South Bohemian countryside near Písek.
