The Black Stork is one of Europe's most secretive woodland birds, nesting far from people in undisturbed old forest. This camera, run by Estonian raptor and stork conservationists, brings viewers face to face with a breeding pair and their chicks on a nest that has been monitored since the early 1990s.

Life on the Nest

Throughout the breeding cycle the stream follows incubation, hatching, and the growth of the downy young as the adults shuttle in with fish, amphibians and insects from the surrounding wetlands. Watchful behaviour and the occasional intruding stork add quiet drama to the feed.

The Estonian Forest Setting

The nest sits in a remote stand of spruce and pine in Jõgeva County, a region of tranquil woodland, bog and lake in central-eastern Estonia. The deliberately undisclosed location protects this legally protected bird from disturbance.
