Everything you need to know about this live stream
A Viking Landmark on the Lakeshore
Standing 28 feet tall, Big Ole is one of the most recognizable roadside icons in the American Midwest. Cast in fiberglass and dressed in full Viking regalia, the statue has kept watch over downtown Alexandria's waterfront since it was relocated from the 1965 New York World's Fair.
Guardian of the Central Lakes Trail
The camera frames Big Ole beside the paved Central Lakes Trail, where cyclists, walkers, and passing traffic loop around the curve toward the shoreline. Manicured lawns and mature shade trees frame the statue's pedestal on every side.
A View Toward the Water
Beyond the statue, the feed opens onto the calm surface of Lake Agnes, part of the chain of lakes that gives Alexandria its nickname as a gateway to Minnesota's lake country. Wooded shoreline and open sky stretch across the background.
Alexandria's Best-Known Symbol
Locally billed as evidence of the region's Scandinavian heritage and its claim to the "Birthplace of America" legend, Big Ole remains one of the most photographed statues in Minnesota and a fixture of every visit to downtown Alexandria.
