The Boathouse Dock

The camera overlooks the floating dock of the Atlanta Rowing Club boathouse, a low ramp reaching out into the Chattahoochee River. From this compact launch, shells, sculls and kayaks slide into the calm water at the edge of the channel.

This stretch of river winds through Roswell, in Fulton County, where dense hardwood forest lines both banks and screens the water from the surrounding suburbs. The reach lies within the corridor of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, a protected ribbon of green north of Atlanta.

Rowing and Paddling Country

The broad, unhurried current makes this water a natural training ground for rowing crews, kayakers and canoeists. Wildlife belongs to the scene as well, with herons, geese and turtles working the shallow margins along the far shore.
