The Center of the Universe
Ashland affectionately calls itself the Center of the Universe, and few spots earn the nickname like its railroad corridor. The tracks run straight down the middle of Center Street, so trains glide past shops, porches and the town green at the heart of everyday life.
A Working Mainline
This is CSX's North End Subdivision, a genuine working artery roughly 16 miles north of Richmond. Around twenty daily freights — intermodal, coal and manifest — share the rails with Amtrak services including the Northeast Regional, making for a near-constant parade of movement.
A Historic Station
Built in 1923 by the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad, the elegant depot still serves passengers today. Beside it stands the iconic Ashland Town Clock, a beloved landmark that anchors the view.
What You Can Watch
The PTZ camera sweeps across the platform and yard, following thundering freight consists and sleek passenger trains as they roll through. It is a front-row seat for railfans drawn to one of North America's busiest train-watching spots.
