The North Sea at Scheveningen

Scheveningen is the seaside heart of The Hague, a broad North Sea beach backed by a lively promenade of restaurants, surf shops and beach clubs. The camera sits at the Aloha Beachclub, capturing the open water, the sweep of golden sand and the constant traffic of walkers and cyclists along the shore.

A surf and kite hotspot

The exposed North Sea swell and steady coastal wind make this stretch a magnet for surfers, kitesurfers and windsurfers. Aloha runs one of the country's busiest surf schools here, and the water is rarely without a colourful sail or board in view.

The marina breakwater

A curving rock breakwater shelters the adjacent Scheveningen marina, marking the southern edge of the beach in the frame. It shapes the gentle inner bay where beginners take their first waves, separate from the more open water beyond.

Visiting the beach

Open year-round, Scheveningen draws swimmers, sunbathers and sport lovers alike. Beyond the frame lie the historic Pier, the grand Kurhaus and a long boulevard of cafés — one of the best-loved coastal escapes in the Netherlands.
