Lorado Taft's Masterwork

The monument was created by Lorado Taft, a celebrated sculptor and university alumnus, who spent years perfecting the composition before its dedication. Cast in bronze and set on a solid granite base, the piece remains a textbook example of early twentieth-century academic sculpture.

Learning and Labor

Two allegorical companions flank the central figure: Learning and Labor, each offering support and guidance to graduates as they step into the world. The trio's carefully arranged robes and gestures were designed to be read as a silent lesson in perseverance and knowledge.
