Playa Acapulco sits along the busy oceanfront of Viña del Mar, one of Chile's most visited seaside cities. This camera is run by the University of Valparaíso's School of Ocean Engineering as part of its ongoing marejadas (swell) monitoring program, turning an everyday beach view into a working scientific instrument.

Reading the Pacific's Swells

The feed is framed to track how Pacific Ocean swells arrive and interact with the seawall, rock groins, and sandy shoreline below. Researchers and curious viewers alike can watch the constant push and pull of the surf against the engineered coastline that protects the promenade above it.

An Urban Seafront Setting

Beyond the water, the camera takes in a slice of Viña del Mar's beachfront character: a palm-lined coastal walkway, apartment buildings, and street lighting that trace the curve of the bay. It is a view where oceanography and daily coastal life share the same frame.
