Aberdeen Harbour, also known as the Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter, has sheltered fishing junks and sampans for generations. The boat-dwelling community once known as the Tanka people built their lives on these sheltered waters, and their legacy still shapes the harbour's working character today.

A Working Waterfront

Rows of fishing vessels and pleasure craft crowd the anchorage, moored bow to stern along the calm waters of the typhoon shelter. Small sampans still ferry between the boats and the shore, a living link to the harbour's maritime past.

Towers Against a Green Backdrop

Behind the water, dense clusters of high-rise residential towers climb the hillside, their façades set against the forested slopes of Brick Hill and Aberdeen Country Park. The contrast between packed urban towers and steep green hillside is one of Hong Kong Island's defining views.

Gateway to Ap Lei Chau

Aberdeen Harbour separates Hong Kong Island from the small island of Ap Lei Chau, linked by a bridge just out of frame. Ferries and pleasure boats continually cross the channel, keeping the harbour in constant, unhurried motion.
